The Youth Engagement and Innovation Attachee will support the planning, coordination and implementation of youth-focused programmes delivered through the Ruwa Innovation Hub.
Reporting directly to the Hub Coordinator, the Attachee will assist with youth mobilisation, participant engagement, programme administration, training coordination, community outreach, communication, data collection, documentation and the delivery of innovation, entrepreneurship, digital skills and future-ready learning activities.
The position provides an opportunity for a university student to gain practical professional experience while contributing to programmes that empower young people to develop skills, create innovative solutions, establish enterprises and access education, employment and livelihood opportunities.
The ideal candidate should be passionate about youth development, innovation, entrepreneurship, digital skills and future-ready learning. The candidate should also demonstrate initiative, creativity, professionalism and the ability to work effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Attachee will:
Support the mobilisation and recruitment of young people to participate in Hub programmes, training sessions, workshops, innovation challenges and community activities.
Engage young people from schools, universities, vocational training centres and surrounding communities.
Assist with participant registration, orientation and onboarding.
Maintain regular communication with programme participants regarding activities, schedules, opportunities and follow-up requirements.
Encourage active and meaningful youth participation in programme design, implementation and evaluation.
Support the creation of a welcoming, inclusive and youth-friendly environment within the Hub.
Assist in identifying the interests, needs, challenges and aspirations of young people participating in Hub programmes.
Support the formation and coordination of youth groups, innovation teams, entrepreneurship clubs and peer-learning networks.
Follow up with participants to promote attendance, retention and completion of programme activities.
3.2 Programme Planning and Implementation
The Attachee will:
Assist the Hub Coordinator in planning and implementing youth engagement, innovation, entrepreneurship and digital skills activities.
Support the preparation of activity schedules, work plans, participant lists and training materials.
Assist with the coordination of workshops, boot camps, innovation challenges, career sessions, mentorship activities, exhibitions and networking events.
Support trainers, facilitators, mentors and guest speakers during programme delivery.
Prepare training venues, learning materials, equipment and participant resources before activities.
Assist with the implementation of future-ready learning programmes, including digital literacy, artificial intelligence awareness, entrepreneurship, employability and innovation.
Support practical learning activities that enable young people to identify community challenges and develop locally relevant solutions.
Assist participants to understand programme requirements, assignments, timelines and expected outputs.
Contribute ideas for improving programme quality, youth participation and participant experience.
3.3 Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support
The Attachee will:
Support young people to identify social, economic and environmental challenges within their communities.
Assist youth innovation teams to develop, test and refine their ideas.
Support brainstorming, problem identification, solution design and basic prototyping activities.
Encourage young innovators to apply human-centred design, creativity and problem-solving approaches.
Assist young entrepreneurs with basic business idea development, market research, customer identification and business model development.
Support the coordination of entrepreneurship training, business development sessions and mentorship activities.
Track the progress of youth-led innovations and enterprises supported through the Hub.
Assist in linking young innovators and entrepreneurs to mentors, technical experts, finance institutions, markets and business development opportunities.
Help participants prepare basic presentations, pitches, posters and demonstrations of their innovations.
Support the organisation of innovation exhibitions, pitch competitions and demonstration events.
3.4 Digital Skills and Future-Ready Learning
The Attachee will:
Support the delivery of digital literacy and future-ready learning activities.
Assist participants to access and use digital learning platforms and online resources.
Provide basic support during digital skills, coding, artificial intelligence, web development and other technology-focused training sessions.
Promote responsible, ethical and safe use of technology among programme participants.
Support young people to use digital tools for learning, communication, entrepreneurship, research and career development.
Assist with the identification and sharing of relevant scholarships, internships, training opportunities, competitions and online learning resources.
Support participants experiencing basic challenges in accessing Hub computers, digital platforms or learning materials.
Encourage young people, particularly young women, to participate in digital skills and technology-related programmes.
3.5 Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement
The Attachee will:
Support outreach activities targeting schools, universities, vocational training centres, community organisations and youth groups.
Assist in communicating Hub programmes and opportunities to young people and community stakeholders.
Participate in meetings and engagements with programme partners when required.
Support the preparation of invitations, attendance confirmations and stakeholder communication.
Assist with maintaining an updated database of schools, community organisations, youth groups, mentors, trainers and programme partners.
Support the coordination of visits by partners, donors, government representatives and other stakeholders.
Represent BOOST and the Ruwa Innovation Hub professionally during community activities and stakeholder engagements.
Assist with developing and maintaining positive relationships with young people, parents, community leaders and partner organisations.
3.6 Communication and Social Media Support
The Attachee will:
Support the development of youth-friendly communication materials promoting Hub programmes, activities and opportunities.
Assist in preparing social media content, event announcements, programme updates and participant success stories.
Capture photographs, videos and participant testimonies during activities, subject to organisational safeguarding and consent procedures.
Support the management and regular updating of the Hub’s digital communication platforms.
Assist with designing simple posters, flyers, presentations and information materials.
Document programme achievements, youth innovations, lessons learned and human-interest stories.
Ensure that communication materials accurately reflect BOOST’s programmes, values and brand.
Support the dissemination of training opportunities, calls for applications and community announcements.
3.7 Monitoring, Evaluation and Documentation
The Attachee will:
Maintain accurate attendance registers and participant records.
Support the administration of registration forms, pre-training assessments, post-training assessments and participant feedback forms.
Assist with the collection and entry of programme monitoring data.
Ensure participant information is handled responsibly and confidentially.
Support the tracking of programme outputs, including the number of participants trained, innovations developed, enterprises supported and opportunities accessed.
Assist with preparing activity reports, meeting notes, event reports and programme summaries.
Document challenges, lessons learned, recommendations and participant feedback.
Support the development of participant profiles, case studies and success stories.
Organise programme documents, photographs, reports and electronic records for easy retrieval.
Assist the Hub Coordinator with compiling monthly and quarterly programme information.
3.8 Hub Administration and Logistics
The Attachee will:
Provide general administrative support to the Hub Coordinator.
Assist with the preparation of activity budgets, requisitions and logistical plans where required.
Support the organisation and responsible use of training rooms, computers, projectors and other Hub equipment.
Maintain orderly programme files, participant records and activity documentation.
Assist with printing, photocopying, filing, scheduling and preparation of meeting materials.
Support the coordination of refreshments, transport and other logistical arrangements for programme activities.
Help monitor the condition and availability of Hub equipment and learning resources.
Report equipment faults, facility concerns and logistical challenges to the Hub Coordinator.
Promote responsible use of the Hub’s facilities and resources among participants.
Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the Hub Coordinator.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should:
Be a current university student seeking a 12-month industrial attachment.
Be studying towards a degree in Youth Development, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Innovation, Information and Communication Technology, Education, Communications, Marketing, Community Development or another relevant field.
Provide an official university industrial attachment or recommendation letter.
Have a good academic record and demonstrate commitment to professional development.
Have basic knowledge of youth development, innovation, entrepreneurship, digital learning or community engagement.
Demonstrate strong interest in youth empowerment and inclusive development.
Previous formal employment experience is not required. However, the following will be an added advantage:
Experience volunteering or participating in youth programmes, clubs, student associations or community initiatives.
Exposure to youth mobilisation, community outreach or event coordination.
Experience supporting workshops, training sessions, innovation challenges or entrepreneurship activities.
Experience using social media for communication, mobilisation or programme promotion.
Participation in innovation, entrepreneurship, technology or leadership programmes.
Experience working with schools, universities, vocational training centres or community organisations.
Basic experience in report writing, data collection, record keeping or administration.
