Skip Truck Driver

Job Description

A skip truck driver is responsible for the safe transportation of empty and full skip bins to and from designated locations. This includes maneuvering the truck, securing loads, and ensuring timely deliveries according to schedules. They also handle waste disposal, potentially at nominated waste disposal centers, and may be involved in on-site bin changeovers

Duties and Responsibilities

• Transportation:
Safely transporting both empty and full skip bins to and from job sites and waste disposal locations.
• Maneuvering:
Skillfully maneuvering the truck into loading and unloading positions, often in tight spaces.
• Securing Loads:
Ensuring all loads are properly secured to prevent accidents or spills during transit.
• Delivery Schedules:
Meeting delivery deadlines and reporting any incidents that might impact schedules.
• Waste Disposal:
Disposing of waste at designated disposal centers, potentially including paperwork or documentation.
• On-site Changeovers:
Potentially performing on-the-spot exchanges of full skips with empty ones at customer locations.
• Vehicle Maintenance:
Conducting daily vehicle checks, reporting defects, and performing basic maintenance to ensure the truck is roadworthy.
• Customer Interaction:
May involve providing excellent customer service, communicating with clients, and handling any issues that arise on site.
• Record Keeping:
Maintaining records of deliveries, collections, fuel usage, and other relevant data.
• Safety Compliance:
Adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations, including proper handling of materials and equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Driving License: A valid driver's license Class 2, retest, medical, and defensive driving certificate.
• Driving Experience: 5 years’ experience in operating skip trucks or similar vehicles.
• Knowledge of Regulations: Understanding of relevant road safety regulations and waste management procedures.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to handle the physical demands of the job, including climbing on and off the truck.
• Communication Skills: Effective communication with dispatchers, customers, and other team members.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to address unexpected issues that may arise on the job.
• Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate record-keeping and meticulous adherence to safety procedures.
