SHEQ OFFICER
Sabi Gold Mine invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the above position. The successful candidate will drive implementation of the mine’s Integrated SHEQ Management System and champion a zero-harm culture across operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensuring implementation of the Integrated SHEQ Management System (IMS).
2. Updating and maintaining SHEQ databases.
3. Enforcing SHEQ legislation, codes of practice, standards and procedures.
4. Tracking, analysing and evaluating SHEQ leading and lagging indicators and establishing relevant interventions.
5. Ensuring effective interventions are implemented.
6. Generating SHEQ performance reports and presentations.
7. Conducting SHEQ audits and inspections and tracking compliance to IMS requirements.
8. Assisting operations in incident and non-compliance investigations.
9. Tracking compliance to SHEQ requirements.
10. Conducting SHEQ-related training and awareness.
11. Assisting departments in establishing and implementing SHEQ interventions and programmes.
12. Assisting in the implementation of zero-harm strategies for the mine.
13. Promoting a positive safety culture at the mine.
14. Reviewing and monitoring SHEQ risks and controls.
Qualifications and Experience
REQUIREMENTS
* Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline (Environmental Science/Studies, Safety, Engineering, Mining, Metallurgy).
* Occupational Safety, Health & Environment Management Course (OSHEMAC) or equivalent.
* At least 5 years’ experience as a SHEQ Officer in mining operations, 2 of them at supervisory level.
* Experience developing and implementing ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 management systems.
* Good working knowledge of relevant safety, health and environmental legislation, standards and guidelines.
* An MBL will be an added advantage.
KEY COMPETENCIES
* Self-starter with excellent interpersonal, planning and leadership skills.
* Good communication, presentation and report-writing skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Knowledge of safety technology and ability to implement innovative solutions.
* Computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
