We are a leading manufacturing firm listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), with an established reputation for quality, innovation, and operational excellence within our sector. As part of our continued growth strategy, we seek to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Safety, Health and Environment (SHE)
Officer to join our dynamic team, based in Harare.
ROLE PURPOSE
The SHE Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the Company's Safety, Health
and Environment management systems. The role will ensure a safe and healthy workplace, compliance with
statutory requirements, and the protection of the environment across all manufacturing operations. The role
reports to the Operations Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Develop, implement, and maintain SHE policies, procedures, and standards in line with legal requirements
and best practice
▪ Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations, including NSSA, EMA, and Factories and
Works requirements
▪ Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and job safety analyses across all plant operations
▪ Carry out routine workplace inspections and audits, and ensure timely close-out of corrective actions
▪ Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend preventive
measures
▪ Coordinate SHE inductions, toolbox talks, and training programmes for employees, contractors, and visitors
▪ Oversee the issuance, use, and management of personal protective equipment (PPE)
▪ Manage waste disposal, effluent, emissions, and other environmental aspects in line with EMA licensing
requirements
▪ Coordinate emergency preparedness, including fire drills, first aid provision, and emergency response plans
▪ Support implementation and certification of management systems such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
▪ Monitor occupational health programmes, including medical surveillance of employees in high-risk areas
▪ Prepare and submit SHE reports, statistics, and statutory returns to management and regulatory authorities
Qualifications and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
▪ A Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related
discipline
▪ A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a SHE role, preferably within a manufacturing environment
▪ Sound knowledge of Zimbabwean SHE legislation (NSSA, EMA, Factories and Works Act)
▪ Strong communication, training, and report-writing skills
▪ Computer literacy (MS Office)
Desirable
▪ A NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent professional SHE qualification
▪ Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems
▪ A valid First Aid certificate
▪ Membership of a recognised professional SHE body
