Job Description
The Section Engineer Smelter is responsible for providing operational service to the Engineering Manager with a 1-2 year planning horizon. The role ensures effective operation, maintenance and availability of the smelter plant. Legally appointed under SI 109 of 1990

Duties and Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Carrying legal appointment in operational area of responsibility:
Ensuring the highest levels of Safety Health and Environmental performance within your area of responsibility
Ensuring compliance to company standards as required
Taking responsibility for timely closure of the above audits
Ensuring compliance with social performance requirements that include identifying and managing social and human rights impacts and risks associated with the department
Ensuring maintenance activities are carried out to best practice standards
Ensuring availability and maintenance of the smelter plant and all its ancillaries
Operational Expenditure Budgeting and cost management
Effective planning of stay in business projects and associated capital
Providing technical advice and leadership to the foremen
The safe and optimal maintenance and operation of machinery and equipment to required standards
Sub-ordinate support to the Section Engineering Manager
Ensuring that the business plan is achieved
Implementing and maintain ISO 45001, ISO14001 and ISO 9001 standards
Ensuring that the Smelter processes are delivering their intended output, in terms of matte product specifications
Maintenance, operation of assets and operational management
Managing plant upgrade projects (belt replacements, pump upgrades, crusher and compressor refurbishments)
Introducing new mechanical systems including installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing
Ensuring individuals and teams have the knowledge, skills, authorities and resources to deliver against expectations and accountability (time, people and budget)

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience:

Five years post Engineering qualification experience
Technical knowledge and Skills

Exposure to furnaces, converters, gas cleaning plants, and heavy industrial equipment.
Computer literacy.
Proficiency in English.
