Baines Intercare Medical Centre is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated RGN to join our dynamic multidisciplinary healthcare team.
The successful candidate will provide safe, compassionate and high quality nursing care to patients attending our emergency department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Registered General Nurse Duties /Responsibilities- Emergency Department
• Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care, including triage, assessment, treatment and monitoring of patients.
• Perform point-of-care investigations, ECGs and other relevant nursing procedures.
• Insert and maintain IV cannulas and administer prescribed oral and intravenous medications.
• Monitor and record patients’ vital signs and observe admitted patients, ensuring timely escalation of any deterioration.
• Assist with doctors’ reviews and follow-up of patients in the Emergency Department.
• Lead the nursing team during emergencies and coordinate resuscitation and other emergency interventions.
• Safely handle, administer and document DDA (Dangerous Drugs) in accordance with hospital policy and professional requirements.
• Maintain infection prevention and control standards, including hand hygiene, PPE, aseptic technique, proper disposal of sharps and healthcare waste management.
• Supervise and support junior nursing staff and nurse aides, ensuring appropriate delegation and quality patient care.
• Provide health education to patients and relatives, particularly on discharge, medications, follow-up and home care.
• Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation, patient records and incident reports.
• Monitor emergency drugs, equipment and supplies and report shortages or faults.
• Maintain professional, ethical and confidential nursing practice in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
• Collect, label and safely handle laboratory specimens
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance activities
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements:
• Registered General Nurse Qualification
• Current registration and valid practicing certificate with the Nurses Council
• Experience in emergency, acute care, primary healthcare is preferred
• Current Basic Life Support certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification, would be an added advantage
• Experience with ECGs and Emergency procedures
• Computer literacy and familiarity with electronic medical records
