Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, high-performing Operations Manager to direct, oversee, and streamline our daily logistics and supply chain operations. The Operations Manager will be responsible for end-to-end execution—managing fleet movements, warehouse throughput, freight dispatch, and cross-border transport while driving operational efficiency, cost optimization, and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Operations Leadership: Direct daily operations across transport, warehousing, customs clearance, and dispatch to ensure seamless freight execution.
Fleet & Transport Optimization: Manage fleet routing, cargo loading, and cross-border haulage schedules to maximize vehicle utilization and minimize turnaround times.
Warehouse & Inventory Control: Oversee warehouse layout, stock handling, space allocation, order fulfillment, and safety standards to prevent loss or cargo damage.
Cross-Border & Customs Coordination: Ensure smooth coordination with customs agents and border clearance teams (ZIMRA, port authorities) to eliminate border transit delays.
Cost & Performance Management: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze fuel consumption and maintenance overheads, and implement cost-reduction strategies.
Vendor & Client Relations: Serve as an escalation point for major operational inquiries, maintaining strong relationships with clients, sub-contractors, and service providers.
Compliance & Safety (SHEQ): Enforce strict workplace safety, health, environmental, and quality regulations across all transportation, loading, and facility activities.
Team Supervision & Development: Lead, mentor, and evaluate dispatchers, warehouse staff, drivers, and operational supervisors to foster a high-performance work culture.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree or CILT certification is an added advantage.
Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or transport operations within Zimbabwe or the SADC region.
Regional Freight Expertise: In-depth knowledge of cross-border trade routes (Beira, Durban, Chirundu, Beitbridge), ZIMRA documentation, and transit regulations.
Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Logistics Management Systems (LMS), Fleet Telematics/GPS tracking platforms, and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
Core Competencies: Strong leadership, crisis management, analytical thinking, negotiations, and decision-making under pressure.
