Job Description
The Operating Theatre Nurse is responsible for providing safe, efficient and compassionate nursing care to patients before, during and after surgical procedures. The role involves preparing the operating theatre, assisting the surgical team, maintaining strict infection prevention and control standards, ensuring availability and sterility of instruments and equipment, and monitoring patient safety throughout the surgical process. The nurse also maintains accurate clinical records and ensures compliance with hospital policies, professional standards and theatre protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Communicating and informing patients and their relatives about the surgery, its risk and benefits.
• Assessing patients before surgery.
• Supporting the anesthetists.
• Preparing all the instruments that are necessary for the surgical procedure.
• Inspecting the operating theatre and making sure it is fit for purpose.
• Briefing with the team.
• Sending for the patients and moving them to theatre
• Any other duties that may be prescribed by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
• Diploma in Operating Theatre Nursing.
• Current practicing certificate.
• Prior OTN work experience an added advantage.
• Excellent supervisory skills
• Good problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
