Mercy Corps exists to alleviate suffering, poverty, oppression by building secure, productive, and just communities. Mercy Corps has been present in Zimbabwe since 2002 focusing its interventions on a multi sectoral market systems development portfolio mobilizing communities to promote small-scale agriculture and revive local economies. Its current operations focus on helping smallholder farmers increase their incomes and harvests through the power of technology and increasing urban household access to quality, reliable water, sanitation and hygiene services. Zimbabwe continues to experience recurrent environmental, economic and social shocks affecting the wellbeing of its communities and undermining development investments. Mercy Corps puts resilience at core of its strategy to contribute to the wellbeing of Zimbabweans by building communities’ capacities and strengthening systems and institutions.
General Position Summary
The Knowledge Management and Communications Officer for the Resilience Knowledge Hub under the Zimbabwe Resilience Building Fund (ZRBF) will be responsible for helping the project achieve its objectives of sharing learning, approaches, knowledge, tools, policy briefs and best practices to a wide range of audiences both within the ZBRF partnership and externally to other stakeholders, while also contributing to building a community of practice. The goal of this Resilience Knowledge Hub project is to strengthen the capacity of ZRBF partners (i.e. government and ZRBF implementing partners, private sector actors, academia and civil society) in understanding and applying resilience concepts, tools, approaches and methodologies in their work to drive the resilience agenda as outlined in the Zimbabwe Resilience Strategic Framework. Furthermore, the intervention will also support ZRBF grantees to conduct context, gender and resilience analysis; improve reporting; improve scenario planning and mapping including operationalizing it to inform and influence ZRBF projects planning and implementation processes. By doing so the intervention will inform decisions on the crisis modifier funding system to strategically layer, sequence and coordinate the ZRBF investments and adapt it to the rapidly changing environment.
The Knowledge Management and Communications Officer is integral to achieving the objectives outlined above. Specifically, s/he will lead the enhancement of communications pieces to ensure they are clear, well written, attractive, appropriately identify and address the intended audience. S/he will lead the content strategy and implementation of that strategy for an online collaboration portal targeting multiple audiences including development practitioners, policy makers, donors, government bodies, academia, private sector and technical working groups on resilience. S/he will build on what is working within the stakeholder organizations and support them to share their experiences across multiple stakeholders to facilitate cross-learning in compelling ways.
Essential Job Responsibilities
COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT
● Lead the development of high-quality, well-written, targeted and effective communications materials to achieve the Resilience Knowledge Hub objectives.
● Collaborates with the project team to conceptualize and develop communications plans to utilize digital and social media channels, and to create online/social media content (including, but not limited, to blog posts, tweets, status updates, pins, photos and interactive videos) to support communications, outreach and collaboration goals.
● Serves as the RKH lead media content creator/developer. Writes copy, takes photos and produces video for RKH social media postings.
● Provide communications guidance and expertise both internally and for partner organizations
● Oversee the production, printing and logistics management of all print materials of the project
● Support document finalization, editing and formatting of various documents
DIGITAL PLATFORM MANAGEMENT
● Together with the project team, develop and implement a content and engagement strategy for an online collaboration portal
● Writes and edits assigned RKH online content, which may include copy for webpages, social media messages, e-newsletters and bulk communication (email, email marketing, text, etc.).
● Lead in the revival, management and updating of the Resilience Knowledge Centre, an active online platform to increase collaboration and sharing of ZRBF stakeholders
● Produce reports on the virtual platform’s web analytics and suggest strategies for increasing quantity and quality of user experiences.
● Support RKH team members with legwork activities like raising requisitions, minuting meetings.

Accountability
Reports Directly To: Resilience Team Lead
Works Directly With: Resilience Measurement and Research Specialist, Policy Implementation & Research Specialist, and RKH consultants.
Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders
Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
● Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Website Management, social media or a similar Communications discipline.
● At least 3 years of experience developing communications plans to utilize digital and social media channels, and to create online/social media content
● Web content management and web analytics experience are highly preferred
● Outstanding communication skills, including a sound ability to adapt material for different audiences
● Strong writing skills, including past demonstrated experience generating substantive written products; excellent verbal communication skills
● Must be adaptable to and comfortable with shifting priorities.
