Graduate Programme Intern. (2 positions) – CoACT
Programme
Collaborative Action for Local Leadership in Anticipatory &
Coordinated Humanitarian Response
Location Harare, Zimbabwe, with periodic travel to programme districts
Duration 12 months.
Reports to CoACT Senior Programme Officer.
1. Background and Purpose
The Collaborative Action for Local Leadership in Anticipatory & Coordinated
Humanitarian Response (CoACT) programme strengthens locally led humanitarian
action in Zimbabwe by supporting preparedness, anticipatory action, coordination,
evidence generation and systems strengthening. The programme works with local
civil society organisations, faith-based actors, government institutions, academia,
private sector actors and humanitarian partners to improve the timeliness,
effectiveness and accountability of responses before, during and after crises.
The Graduate Programme Interns will provide technical and administrative support to
the CoACT team while gaining practical experience in humanitarian programming,
localisation, emergency preparedness, monitoring, research, knowledge
management and stakeholder engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

2. Key Responsibilities
• Support coordination of CoACT governance structures, technical working
groups, partner meetings, workshops, simulation exercises and learning events.
• Maintain activity calendars, stakeholder databases, minutes, action trackers and programme filing systems.
• Monitor early warning information, humanitarian developments and agreed
trigger indicators, and prepare concise risk monitoring or situation updates.
• Support preparedness planning, contingency planning, anticipatory action documentation and activation processes where required.
• Collect and compile programme data, update indicator tracking tools, support
field monitoring visits and assist with beneficiary feedback mechanisms.
• Support the roll-out of rapid needs assessments during sudden-onset emergencies, compiling primary and secondary data to help identify immediate assistance priorities.
• Contribute to after-action reviews, learning workshops, case studies, success stories, briefing notes and other knowledge products.
• Support communication with consortium members, implementing partners, government departments and humanitarian coordination platforms.
• Assist with donor research, concept note development, proposal inputs,
programme summaries and technical annexes.
• Provide logistical and administrative support for travel, procurement documentation, meetings and programme events.
3. Expected Deliverables
• Updated workplans, activity calendars, meeting minutes and action trackers.
• Regular risk monitoring, situation or early warning summaries.
• Accurate programme data, indicator trackers and monitoring visit notes.
• Consolidated data and draft summary reports for multi-sector rapid
assessments following emergencies.
• At least three learning products, such as case studies, success stories or
briefing notes.
• Well-organised CoACT knowledge repository and programme documentation.
• Inputs to donor reports, programme updates, concept notes or proposals.
• A completed learning portfolio demonstrating skills gained during the internship.
4. Learning Opportunities
The intern will gain practical exposure to locally led humanitarian action, anticipatory
action, disaster risk reduction, humanitarian coordination, MEAL, information
management, partnership management, proposal development, safeguarding, policy
engagement and professional report writing. The intern may participate in mentoring,
internal learning sessions, field missions and selected coordination meetings where
appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

5. Qualifications and Competencies
Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree obtained within the past three years in
Development Studies, Disaster Risk Management, Environmental Science, Climate
Change, Agriculture, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Social Sciences, Public
Administration, International Relations, Project Management, Information
Management, Economics or another relevant discipline. Prior experience through
volunteering, internships, research, student leadership or community work will be an
added advantage.
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong research, analytical,
communication, data management and organisational skills; proficiency in Microsoft
Office applications; attention to detail; initiative; teamwork; professional integrity;
respect for diversity and inclusion; and commitment to humanitarian principles,
safeguarding and locally led approaches.
The candidate should also demonstrate strong writing skills, including the ability to
draft clear meeting minutes, concise situation updates, accurate assessment
summaries, donor-friendly programme updates, case studies, success stories,
briefing notes and well-structured reports for different audiences.

6. Safeguarding, Supervision and Conditions
The intern will comply with CAFOD’s safeguarding policy, Code of Conduct, PSEA,
anti-fraud, confidentiality and ethical standards, and will complete all mandatory
trainings. The intern will receive an induction, work under a designated supervisor,
develop an Individual Learning and Development Plan, participate in regular
supervision meetings and undergo mid-term and end-of-placement reviews.
This internship is a structured learning opportunity and does not guarantee future
employment. A stipend and reasonable travel support may be provided in
accordance with CAFOD policies. Field travel within Zimbabwe may be required, and
the intern must observe all security, operational and organisational procedures.
