Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following full time positions on two-year renewable contracts under the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) funded project titled *Urban and Peri-Urban Ecosystems in Zimbabwe for Sustainable Food Systems in Zimbabwe*. The project is being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) under the Executing Agency, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA)

POSITION: GENDER OFFICER

Station: Harare Metropolitan Province (with travel to Bulawayo Metropolitan Province)

Under the general supervision of the Technical Project Coordinator (TPC) and in collaboration with project partners, the incumbent will ensure gender mainstreaming across all project phases and provide technical gender expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Integrate gender equality principles into project design, implementation, and monitoring.
• Strengthen participation and leadership of women, youth, and marginalized groups in decision-making and benefit-sharing processes.
• Review and support implementation of the Gender Action Plan using gender-sensitive results-based frameworks.
• Conduct gender audits and develop annual Gender Action Plans to promote equity.
• Design gender-sensitive training programmes, social impact assessments, and inclusive communication tools.
• Support collection and analysis of sex- and gender-disaggregated data and gender-specific outcomes.
• Assist staff and partners in integrating gender-responsive actions into project activities.
• Support monitoring systems that promote gender-transformative approaches.
• Ensure gender considerations are integrated into all project implementation processes.
• Ensure gender inclusion standards are reflected in all Terms of Reference for staff and consultants.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, International Development, Human Rights, or related social science field.
• Minimum of seven years’ experience in gender-related work within environmental management, governance, or urban planning.
• Experience in participatory facilitation with communities, SMEs, and community-based organisations.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with government, development partners, and civil society.
• Knowledge of gender-based violence protocols, grievance mechanisms, and strong analytical and communication skills.
