GARAGE FOREMAN
Sabi Gold Mine invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the above position. The successful candidate will lead the garage team in keeping the mine’s mobile fleet safe, available and reliable.
Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervising and coordinating garage artisans, apprentices and assistants.
2. Planning and scheduling preventive and breakdown maintenance of mobile equipment and vehicles.
3. Ensuring equipment availability and reliability targets are met.
4. Diagnosing faults and overseeing repairs, overhauls and component change-outs.
5. Maintaining job cards, maintenance records and equipment history files.
6. Monitoring spares usage and raising requisitions for parts and consumables.
7. Controlling garage costs within the approved budget.
8. Enforcing SHEQ standards, procedures and statutory requirements in the workshop.
9. Conducting workshop safety inspections and pre-use equipment checks.
10. Liaising with Mining and Engineering on equipment requirements and downtime.
11. Training and mentoring artisans and apprentices.
12. Managing outsourced repairs and service providers.
13. Compiling daily, weekly and monthly equipment performance reports.
14. Promoting good housekeeping and a positive safety culture in the garage.
Qualifications and Experience
REQUIREMENTS
* Apprentice-trained Class 1 Journeyman Certificate in Diesel Plant Fitting.
* National Diploma in Automotive Engineering is a must.
* A Degree in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering will be an added advantage.
* At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a mining garage, 2 of them at supervisory level.
* Experience maintaining trackless mining equipment, earthmoving plant and light vehicles.
* Sound knowledge of planned maintenance systems and maintenance management software.
* A valid driver’s licence and a supervisory development certificate will be added advantages.
KEY COMPETENCIES
* Strong leadership and people management skills.
* Excellent planning, organising and time management skills.
* Sound diagnostic and fault-finding ability.
* Safety-conscious, with good communication and report-writing skills.
* Computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
