Job Description

Caritas Mutare intends to improve access to reliable water for communities and productive livelihoods in Ward 30, Makoni District. Caritas therefore seeks a qualified contractor to undertake hydrogeological surveys, drill and develop one productive borehole under a wet hole contract.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful contractor shall:
• Conduct a hydrogeological and geophysical survey and identify a suitable drilling site.
• Drill, case, develop and complete one borehole.
• Conduct a pumping/yield test and determine sustainable borehole yield.
• Collect and test water samples for physical, chemical and bacteriological quality.
• Provide borehole completion records, test results and as-built documentation.
• Reinstate and clean the site after completion.

3. Minimum Technical Requirement
The borehole should achieve a target yield of at least 3.5 m³/hour, after a continuous pump test of 12 hours.

Qualifications and Experience

4. Required Deliverables

The contractor shall submit:
 Hydrogeological survey reports
 2D geophysical profiles
 Borehole drilling logs
 Lithological logs
 Pump test and recovery test data
 Borehole construction records
 Completion certificates signed by RIDA.

5. Contractor Responsibilities
The contractor shall provide all necessary:
• Drilling equipment and machinery;
• Skilled and unskilled labour;
• Materials, transport and fuel;
• Technical personnel and supervision; and
• Health, safety and environmental protection measures.
The contractor shall maintain accurate drilling records, including coordinates, depths, geological formations, water strikes, casing, water levels and test results.

6. Supervision and Acceptance
All works shall be supervised by a qualified engineer/hydrogeologist appointed by Caritas Mutare. The borehole and associated infrastructure shall only be accepted following satisfactory completion, development, pumping testing, water-quality testing and verification of the required technical standards.

7. Environmental, Health and Safety Requirements

The contractor shall comply with applicable environmental, health and safety requirements and ensure proper management of drilling waste, fuel, oils and other materials. The worksite shall be left clean and safe upon completion.

8. Safeguarding
The contractor shall sign and abide with Caritas Mutare safeguarding policy before commencement of works.

9. Submission
Interested contractors should submit:
• Company profile and relevant experience;
• Proof of registration and statutory compliance;
• Evidence of similar borehole/water infrastructure projects;
• Proposed technical approach and workplan;
• Details and qualifications of key personnel;
• Financial quotation/BOQ; and
• References from previous clients.
