AHF is the world's largest non-profit HIV/AIDS healthcare organization, providing cutting-edge
medicine, prevention, testing, treatment, advocacy, and care services to more than 3.1 million people
in 50 countries worldwide, regardless of ability to pay. Founded in 1987, AHF employs more than
9,000 staff globally and continues to lead innovative public health interventions that improve lives and
strengthen health systems.
AHF is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented Associate Director of Marketing to lead the
Africa Bureau's marketing agenda. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced marketing leader
to shape brand strategy, increase public awareness, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and elevate
AHF's visibility across diverse African markets.
AHF launched its international operations in Africa in 2002. Today, the Africa Bureau supports high
impact HIV/AIDS programs in 15 countries namely Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho,
Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and
Zimbabwe.

Position Summary
The Associate Director of Marketing will work closely with the Africa Bureau Chief, Deputy Bureau
Chief, and Global Advocacy, Marketing, Policy & Operations teams to develop and implement impactful
marketing, communications, and media strategies across the Africa Bureau.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in marketing, oversee brand consistency,
drive innovative campaigns, and support AHF's mission of improving access to HIV/STI prevention,
treatment, and care throughout Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Marketing Leadership
• Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies aligned with organizational goals and
growth objectives.
• Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of bureau-wide marketing plans.
• Collaborate with Medical, Prevention, Advocacy, and Program teams to strengthen AHF's profile
and impact.
• Support country-specific marketing initiatives while ensuring alignment with regional and global
strategies.
Campaign Development & Content Management
• Lead high-impact marketing campaigns across:
o Digital marketing
o Social media
o Print and traditional media
o Events and community engagement
o Advocacy and partnership platforms
• Drive audience engagement and behavior change through targeted communications.
Digital & Performance Marketing
• Oversee digital marketing initiatives including:
o SEO/SEM strategies
o Email marketing automation
o Paid media campaigns
o Marketing analytics and performance tracking
• Utilize data-driven insights to optimize campaigns and demonstrate ROI.
Brand & Communications Management
• Ensure consistent application of AHF's brand identity and messaging across all platforms.
• Lead advertising, promotions, media relations, and public relations activities.
• Oversee development of marketing collateral, publications, reports, newsletters, and
promotional materials.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
• Build and maintain productive relationships with:
o Internal leadership teams
o External agencies and service providers
o Media houses and journalists
o Community organizations and partners
• Enhance AHF's visibility and influence through strategic collaborations.
Financial & Operational Management
• Support annual marketing budget planning and forecasting.
• Monitor marketing expenditure and ensure efficient resource utilization.
• Identify risks and provide timely reporting on critical issues.
Leadership & Team Management
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management for marketing teams.
• Foster innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the department.
• Lead marketing transformation initiatives across a dynamic, multi-country environment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or
a related field.
• Master's degree or MBA will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 8–12 years of progressive marketing experience.
• At least 3–5 years in a senior leadership or strategic marketing management role.
• Proven experience delivering successful multi-channel marketing campaigns across diverse
markets.
• Strong expertise in digital marketing, analytics, brand management, communications, and
stakeholder engagement.
• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, vendors, and ROI-driven marketing initiatives.
• Experience in healthcare, public health, international development, non-profit, or mission-driven
organizations is highly desirable.
