Job Description

We are seeking a highly competent, self-driven and experienced Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate must possess strong accounting and tax compliance skills and be able to perform the role independently, without close supervision or extensive coaching.

Duties and Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Process day-to-day accounting and financial transactions.
• Process invoices, receipts, payments, journals and other accounting transactions.
• Perform bank, supplier, customer and general ledger reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
• Participate in periodical branch stocktakes.
• Prepare stock reconciliations, investigate and resolve variances.
• Coach and train subordinates and retail branches staff
• Prepare accounts receivable and accounts payable schedules.
• Monitor customer accounts and follow up outstanding balances.
• Assist with monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Prepare and maintain tax schedules and supporting documentation.
• Prepare VAT calculations, reconciliations and submissions.
• Prepare withholding tax and other tax compliance requirements.
• Ensure transactions are correctly recorded for tax purposes and supported by valid fiscal documentation.
• Liaise with ZIMRA on routine tax queries, reconciliations and documentation.
• Monitor tax and statutory deadlines and ensure timely compliance.
• Assist with annual audits and provide required financial schedules.
• Identify accounting discrepancies and independently investigate and resolve them.
• Maintain proper filing and safeguarding of financial and tax records.
• Ensure compliance with company financial policies, accounting standards and relevant Zimbabwean tax legislation.
• Provide accurate financial information and reports to management when required.

Qualifications and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have one or more of the following:
• A Degree/Diploma in Accounting, Finance or an ACCA CIMA CIS qualification will be an added advantage.
• Minimum 6 years' traceable practical accounting experience.
• Strong practical knowledge of Zimbabwean tax and statutory requirements.
• Demonstrable experience with VAT, PAYE, withholding tax and ZIMRA compliance. Proficient in navigation and use of Zimra’s TARMS system for tax filing.
• Good understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations and financial controls.
• Experience with Pastel/Sage or similar accounting packages is an advantage.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience in retail, automotive, distribution or a multi-branch environment will be an advantage.

• Be reliable, accountable and results-driven.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are looking for an accountant who can “hit the ground running” — someone who understands accounting and tax processes, can independently complete assigned work, identifies issues before they become problems, and does not require continuous instruction or day-to-day supervision.
